Working draft. This policy describes how the service is built to operate. Have it checked against your final business structure before relying on it, and tell us through the contact form if anything here does not match your experience.

What this covers

Canberra Job Leads collects personal information so it can pass job requests to tradespeople and run the service. We handle it under the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and we send electronic messages under the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).

What we collect

From customers: your name, email, phone, the job suburb and optionally the street address, the property type, your relationship to the property, what the job is, a link to photos if you give one, your urgency and rough budget, how you would like to be contacted, and your consent choices.

From tradespeople: business and contact name, ABN, email, phone, website, the trades and suburbs you cover, travel radius, minimum job value, licence numbers, insurance status, and which plan interests you.

Automatically: privacy-friendly, cookieless page analytics provided by our hosting platform. No advertising trackers, and no cookie banner because there are no tracking cookies to consent to.

We do not ask for sensitive information as the Privacy Act defines it, and you should not send it. Please keep health details, identity document numbers and bank account numbers out of job descriptions.

Why we collect it

To pass your job to tradespeople who cover your suburb and do that kind of work; to answer you; to check that a tradesperson holds the licences and insurance they say they do; to bill tradespeople; and to keep the records we are required to keep.

Who we give it to

Customer contact details go to tradespeople who take your job — and only because you gave permission when you posted it. Your details are never shown on a public page and are never sold.

We use service providers for website hosting, form storage and email delivery. When payments are introduced, card details will be handled by the payment provider and never stored by us.

Where a lead comes from a third-party source such as a public tender notice, that is labelled on the lead so a tradesperson knows it is not a direct request to us.

Email and marketing

We send you what you asked for — job confirmations, updates and account emails. Marketing goes only to people who ticked the box for it, always identifies Canberra Job Leads, and always carries a way to stop. Unsubscribing takes effect within five working days and does not stop the emails you need about a job in progress.

How long we keep it

Job records are kept while the job is live and for a period afterwards for dispute, warranty and tax reasons, then deleted or de-identified. Tradesperson records are kept while the account is active and for the period required afterwards.

Getting a copy, or getting rid of it

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, through the contact form. We will confirm who you are first, act within a reasonable time, and tell you if anything had to be kept and why.

Security and complaints

Access to submissions is limited to the people who need it, and administrator actions are logged. No system is perfect, and we will tell you promptly if something goes wrong that affects you.

If you think we have mishandled your information, tell us through the contact form and we will respond. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
