Questions

If yours isn't here, fire it through the contact form — odds are we'll add it.

If you need work done

Does it cost anything to post a job?
No. Posting's free if you're a homeowner, tenant, landlord, agent, strata manager or business. Tradies pay for access to the leads. That's where the money comes from, and it's why we don't take a cut of your job.
Will my details be published anywhere?
No. A tradie sees your suburb, the trade and what you've written. Your full address, phone and email only go to someone who takes the job, and only because you gave permission when you posted it. Nothing goes on a public board and nothing gets sold.
How many people will contact me?
Usually two or three. If you'd rather only one rang you, say so in the description and we'll hold it back. If nobody's called within a working day, tell us — that means we've got a hole in that trade or that suburb, and we'd rather hear about it than not.
Do you pick the tradesperson for me?
No, and we don't want to. We put the job in front of trades who cover your suburb and do that kind of work. Who you go with is completely your call, and you're contracting with them, not with us.
Are all your tradies checked?
Not yet, and we're not going to claim otherwise while this thing is new. Tradies hand over their licence and insurance details when they register, and we check what they actually send us. Nobody gets called "verified" here until they genuinely are. Even then: ask to see the licence yourself and check it on the ACT or NSW register before work starts. That advice doesn't change no matter how big we get.
Can I send photos?
Yes, and please do — photos get you a much more accurate price. The job form won't take file uploads, so either paste a link (Google Photos, iCloud, Dropbox) or just reply to your confirmation email with the photos attached.
What if it's an emergency?
Post it and mark it as an emergency and it goes straight to trades who've opted in to after-hours work. But if something's genuinely unsafe — burning smell, sparking, water you can't stop, no power to a fridge or medical gear — don't sit around waiting on us. Ring a 24-hour trade direct, and call 000 for anything involving fire, gas or immediate danger.
I'm renting. Can I post a job?
Yes, but square it with your landlord or agent first. In most tenancies they arrange and pay for repairs, and a tradie will want to know who's authorising the work. Say in the description who's paying and you'll save everyone a phone call.
How do I change or cancel a job I posted?
Message us through the contact form with your reference number. If tradies have already got your details, we'll let them know it's off.

If you're a tradie

Where do the leads come from?
Straight off this site, emails into our job inbox, referrals from partners, jobs we take over the phone, and public opportunities like government tender notices and openly advertised work. Every lead records where it came from and when — and anything from a public source is labelled that way, so you know it isn't someone who came to us asking.
Do you scrape websites?
No. We don't get around logins, paywalls, access controls or anti-bot protection, and we stick to site terms, robots rules, copyright and rate limits. Where a source needs permission, we get it in writing first. Anything we're not sure about gets held for a person to look at instead of being sent to you.
Does buying a lead mean I get the job?
No. A lead is an introduction, not a booking. Customers pick their own tradie and plenty of jobs never go ahead. The lead policy spells out when a lead gets replaced or credited — wrong contact details, work already awarded, wrong trade, or a job that doesn't exist.
How many of us get the same lead?
Every lead shows how many tradies have already taken it, before you spend a cent. We cap it per category so the customer isn't swamped and the lead isn't worthless by the time it reaches you.
Do you take a cut of the job?
No. You pay for the lead. What you charge and what you make on it is your business, not ours.
Is there a lock-in contract?
No. Subscriptions run month to month and you can cancel whenever — it takes effect at the end of the period you've already paid for. Founding member pricing stays put while the subscription's active.
What do I need to register?
An ABN, whatever licences your trade requires, and current public liability insurance. Send the licence card and certificate of currency by replying to your confirmation email. We won't mark an account checked just because you told us it's fine.

About the service

Which areas do you cover?
Every ACT district — Belconnen, Gungahlin, North Canberra, Inner South, Woden Valley, Weston Creek, Tuggeranong and Molonglo Valley — plus Queanbeyan and the NSW towns around it. Have a look at the full suburb list. Tradies set their own travel radius on top of that, so a Tuggers sparkie doesn't get dragged up the GDE for a small job.
Do prices include GST?
Tradies set their own prices and sort out their own GST. On what we charge tradies, GST status will be spelled out on every invoice once pricing is live — and we're not inventing those numbers before we know them.
Who is responsible for the work?
The tradie. Their licensing, their insurance, their quote, their workmanship, their safety, their compliance with the law. Canberra Job Leads introduces the work; we don't do it, supervise it or warrant it. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply to them the usual way.
How do I get my information deleted?
Ask us through the contact form. We'll confirm you're you, delete what we aren't legally required to keep, and tell you what was kept and why.
